Blue: 'I didn’t think K2 & I would get this far'

“I didn’t think K2 and I would get this far.” The duchess Blue Mbombo talks about her relationship with K2, and moving on after Big Brother Mzansi.
How is life after Big Brother Mzansi?
Are we still talking about Big Brother? (Laughs) Life has been amazing. BBM opened a lot of doors for me. I’ve been learning a lot about myself.

Did you expect the fame?
Never! I actually grew up being the most hated person in my hood for no reason, so the fact that people now love me so much came as a shock. Even when we were still at the Big Brother house, I was shocked at the amount of votes I got every week. I really didn’t expect to be loved this much.

How are you handling the fame?
I have to be honest – being on Big Brother was a huge advantage. People saw the real me for two months, so by the time I left the house, the public loved me for me. This helps because I can continue being myself knowing that I’m appreciated for being me, I don’t have to be fake or keep up appearances.

How do you stay humble?
My background humbles me; I didn’t have much growing up so every now and then I’m reminded of that. Plus I’ve always been a humble person.

Let’s talk about relationship. Did you think you and K2 would get this far when you met?
No ways. I didn’t even think we’d date. I was dating someone else when I went to the Big Brother house, so falling in love with another person wasn’t part of the plan. Plus, I didn’t want to fall for someone I was competing with, but things happened and now we’re here.

What do you love most about him?
He’s young, but he’s so smart and mature. He always keeps me on my toes, and he respects and treats me like the queen, which makes it easy for me to treat him like a king.

How do you keep the fire burning?
We’re always trying new things together.

What advice would you give a young couple?
Communication in a relationship is vital. Make sure you speak to your partner about your fears and concerns. Also, try not to compete with your partner, just because he went out and came late the previous night doesn’t mean you have to do the same. Always voice out what you’re feeling in a respectful way.
