After scampering to answer the red telephone thinking that it could bring him some good news, Pumba was surprised to hear the voice on the other end telling him that he together with Kay would be replacing Ace and Ntombi on the (fake - this wasn't mentioned) nomination list.
After revealing the news to his partner Kay, she looked so gutted and became angry at him, this was further expressed during their diary session with Biggie; the pair looked to be having a rocky relationship. Kay shared with Biggie that Pumba was finding it hard opening up to her about how he felt at times and looked distant. Pumba defended himself saying that ousting his feelings doesn't help in any way.
