Proving its popularity, reality series Big Brother Mzansi saw over 2500 hopefuls auditioning for the show in Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg. And whilst some of the wannabe housemates came alone, others came with a partner in line with this season's call for entries which is open to both individuals and two-somes.
From bold fashion choices and outspoken personalities, to gorgeous divas and aspiring stars, the three cities delivered colourful characters, each determined to make an impression on selectors who had the very difficult job of shortlisting candidates for the next round of auditions.
"We are very pleased with the positive response that the auditions had and want to thank everyone who took time to come out and participate. Especially considering that if chosen, they will have to give up the comforts of their homes, their family and their friends, possibly for just over two months. It's incredible to see people willing to take up this truly unique opportunity, it demonstrates how much people engage with this format," says Nkateko Mabaso, director for local interest channels for M-Net.
Also commenting on the auditions was Endemol South Africa's managing director Sivan Pillay who said, "Big Brother Mzansi 2 offers South African hopefuls yet another shot at becoming a millionaire. We are extremely proud that the Big Brother format continues to excite viewers and prompt participations. The excitement is also building as audiences anticipate the theme for 2015 and what it will offer viewers in terms of on screen entertainment on Mzansi Magic."
With the first stage of auditions now complete, those shortlisted will now undergo several audition stages before the final housemates for Big Brother Mzansi 2 are chosen. Among these will be psychological assessments, in-depth interviews with the show's producers and of course, criminal and background checks.
Big Brother Mzansi 2 airs for the first time on Sunday, 29 March on Mzansi Magic, channel 161 on DStv and will run for 56 days. Prize money on the show this year has been kept secret and the only clue that has been given is that it will noy be less than R1 million, but it could be as high as a mouthwatering R2 million. That is all 'Biggie' is saying for now.
Big Brother Mzansi 2 is produced for Mzansi Magic by Endemol South Africa.
