They talked her through their PACE Social Awareness campaign and the rationale behind its acronym; P: Planning, A: abstinence, C: contraception, E: Enjoy. or, P: Partners, A: Actively, C: Converse and E: Enjoy. So impressed was Dr Eve with their concept that she asked if she could trademark it. Go Team Big Brother Mzansi!
Doctor Eve took the Housemates through how to use a condom safely, and here is what she pointed out
- Check the expiry date.
- Open it in the corner as to not rip the condom.
- Make sure that the condom is SABS approved. Lovers Plus condoms always are.
- Make sure you put it on correctly, this means unrolling it gently.
- Use lubrication wherever possible, this acts as extra protection and it feels great too.
Mandla walked in late and was knocked off his feet "wow, the Doctor Eve? I love you!". Mandla, always the charmer.
The Housemates also spoke of emotional safety when having sex. Guys and girls need to put their cards on the table and negotiate terms before they engage to avoid someone getting hurt wherever possible. This is also a good time to discuss what the rules of engagement around contraception will be. It's all too easy to get caught up in the heat of the moment and throw caution to the wind, that's when accidents happen, always better to be safe than sorry.
Safe sex is about negotiation and it's best to enter into these negotiations before either party has had any alcohol as alcohol always means your inhibitions are lowered and our decision making process becomes blurred.
Housemates listened intently as Dr Eve spoke through the importance of safe sex and how to step the pleasure up with foreplay and kissing.
It's critical that you are open and honest about sex with your partners, Mzansi, casual and long term. So remember, if you think she's spunky, cover your monkey!
